The so-called calico cat is a cat with three colors on its body: black, red (orange) and white, hence the name calico cat. The calico cat refers to the color, not the species. Most calico cats are female cats. Calico cats are cats with three colors on their bodies: black, orange and white. Their fur color distribution is very random, so there are no two calico cats in the world that are exactly the same.
But why are calico cats always female? Because the gene that controls calico is together with the gene that controls sex, which we call sex-linked genes, calico cats are basically female cats, so are there any calico male cats? There are all kinds of things in the world. Male cats may still show calico in the case of genetic abnormalities, but most of them will have reproductive problems. If you find a male calico cat, it is regarded as a symbol of luck.
The genes that determine black and orange in calico cats are sex-linked and located on the X chromosome (white gene is on the body chromosome). If the cat's genes are randomly deactivated during differentiation, the black gene in the fur color cells may be deactivated and show orange, otherwise it will show black. Therefore, most calico cats are female. In a few cases, calico male cats will appear due to more than one X chromosome (Klinefelter's syndrome) or mosaicism, and generally have lower reproductive capacity.
Some calico cats look very cute, while others look very casual, emmm... It's hard to describe.
