The earliest domestic cats in the United States are said to have come to the New World with immigrants in the 17th century. In the following centuries, sturdy and efficient cats spread throughout the United States. Most of them were skilled mousers rather than family pets. But in the early 20th century, an improved breed of yard mouser began to appear, known as the shorthair. Careful breeding further improved the domestic cat breed, and by the 1960s, the breed was renamed the American Shorthair, which gradually attracted people's attention at purebred cat shows. Healthy and hardy, the American Shorthair is a perfect pet for almost any type of family.
American Shorthair cats are known for their sturdy physique, strong bones, well-developed muscles, smart nature, and gentle personality. They are a medium-to-large breed of shorthair cats. They have thick fur and up to 30 colors, among which the silver striped variety is the most valuable.
American Shorthair is also a very smart cat, and it is very cooperative with the owner's training. A domestic American Shorthair likes to enjoy the caress of the owner. It also cherishes its toys and can invent many different ways to play, making its life full of fun. The mouse-catching skills are first-class, and it is a rare mouse-catching expert.
British Shorthair and American Shorthair are more common purebred cats. Everyone thinks they are very healthy. In fact, British and American Shorthair also have genetic diseases (most purebred cats have some diseases). The genetic diseases of British and American Shorthair should not be underestimated. This type of cat is most likely to have cardiovascular genetic diseases, especially male cats, which are most likely to suffer from myocardial diseases. Once this disease occurs, there is a risk of sudden death, so the owners must pay special attention.
To be honest, isn’t it very similar to our tabby cat? Haha.
