The Bull Terrier breed has two strains - the White Bull Terrier and the Colored Bull Terrier. The origin of the breed can be traced back to 1835. It is generally believed that the breed was bred from the now extinct English White Terrier. A few years later, in order to achieve its standard appearance, the dog was crossed with the Spanish Pointer, and the genetic characteristics of the Pointer can still be found occasionally in the dog.
Around 1860, breeders thought it was more challenging to breed a well-rounded dog, so James Hinks bred a popular all-white dog that aroused people's enthusiasm for new bloodline dogs at the time. The Bull Terrier was bred as an athlete, in an era when dogfighting was allowed and widely accepted, as life was rather hard and not very genteel. As a fighting dog or canine fighter, the Bull Terrier had to be strong, agile and courageous. The Bull Terrier was bred for gentlemen, who were keen on fair play and not competing with cheaters. The Bull Terrier was taught to bravely defend itself and its owner, but was never allowed to try a challenge - the white variety was called the "White Knight", an honor it maintained.
People who don't know the dog don't know that the Bull Terrier is actually a very friendly dog, it thrives on its temperament, and sometimes fights and plays. Most people prefer a relatively balanced animal, rather than one that is eccentric in some way. But in general, the Bull Terrier has the perfect combination as a fighting dog - lively and alert.
According to its standards, colored bull terriers also meet the requirements. Colored bull terriers are any color other than white or other dogs with white spots. Colored bull terriers were separated as a branch in 1936.
The bull terrier looks unique, short and sturdy, and looks like a brave fighter. In fact, the dog is obedient and kind to children. However, this dog may often hurt other dogs because of its strong fighting spirit, so it must be strictly supervised. In 1865, a spotted bull terrier named "Pincha" once made a record of expelling 500 mice in 36 minutes and 26 seconds: the fighting dog of "bull and terrier" was later combined with the British toy terrier and whippet breeds to produce a fierce, fast and agile dog breed. In 1860, dog dealer James Hicks added the English Hound, Dalmatian, and Spanish Pointer to this dog. After many breed improvements, the white, flat-faced, strong, and shorter-limbed Bull Terriers were produced. In 1920, because the white breed inherited hearing defects, other colors were added to the coat. In the 19th century, white Bull Terriers were well received among bulldog lovers.
