The swamp mongoose is a solitary animal with territoriality. When in danger, they will make high-frequency calls. They are most active at dusk and at night, feeding on fish, frogs, insects and their larvae, snails, and a variety of fruits. They are excellent swimmers and are also smart little animals.
In some parts of Africa, swamp mongooses are kept as pets. They are relatively docile and clean.

Swamp mongooses usually give birth to two litters a year, one in the dry season and one in the wet season, with 1-3 pups per litter. They usually open their eyes in 9-14 days and are weaned in 30-46 days. The lifespan of artificially raised swamp mongooses can reach 17 years.

The IUCN Red List is listed as Least Concern (LC).

Protect wild animals and stop eating game.
