The Redbone Coonhound originated in the United States in the 19th century.
At that time, there were also raccoons in Georgia in the southern United States. Local people knew that there were hounds that specialized in hunting raccoons, so they conducted breeding experiments, hoping to cultivate a new breed of local raccoon hounds. After that, the bloodhound was mated with the ancient Irish hound, and finally the Redbone Coonhound was bred, which was better than the original. In addition to being a special raccoon hunter, the Redbone Coonhound is also an expert in hunting jaguars and wild bobcats with its keen sense of smell, strong physique and special loud bark.
The male Redbone Coonhound from GrandRiver Kennel performed well in the AKC competition in the United States in 2020. It is now ranked second in the 2020 AKC Redbone Coonhound ranking in the United States, and the male dog ranks first.
Among all coonhounds, the Redbone Coonhound is relatively sound and complete. It is cheerful and lively, gentle and docile, and will show great interest and patience when hunting. Although some redbone coonhounds have white on their feet or chest, this elegant and friendly dog is the only solid color coonhound.
