The Japanese Bobtail cat is a native cat breed in Japan. It is also called the calico cat or the short-tailed calico cat in Japan. This cat has a long history. Some people believe that it was introduced to Japan from China or Korea more than 1,000 years ago. The Japanese believe that calico cats are a symbol of luck, so many families keep them.
Since 1968, when a pair of Japanese cats were brought to Virginia, USA, they were given the resounding name of "Japanese Bobtail Cat" and attracted everyone's attention. Japanese Bobtail Cats have unique Oriental facial features and very smooth fur. All fur colors are recognized, but the most popular is the mixed white, black and brown cat. In 1970, a Japanese Bobtail cat club was established, which was even more popular. The body shape of a foreign cat, coupled with a short tail like a rabbit, is the biggest feature of the Japanese Bobtail cat. Because it is a recessive genetic factor, it will not be passed on to the kitten unless both parents have short round tails. After being introduced to the United States, it was improved and bred. The Japanese Bobtail cat has become one of the world's famous ornamental cats, but it has not yet been recognized in the UK. When the Japanese Bobtail cat sits, it often raises one of its front paws. It is said that this posture represents good luck; tortoiseshell-white cats are considered to be very auspicious. Three-color cats often appear in literary and artistic works and paintings in some countries.
The most popular varieties of Japanese Bobtail cats are tortoiseshell-white cats (black, red, white, or tortoiseshell and white), black cats, white cats, red cats, black and white cats, red and white cats, and tortoiseshell cats (black, red and cream). Except for the lack of Siamese and Abyssinian cats, they have other purebred cat colors.
Japanese Bobtail cats have a peaceful personality, rich emotions, friendly to people, lively and love to run and play, and are most suitable as pets at home.
