The Australian Shepherd originated in the 19th century. It is a working dog with strong herding and guarding abilities, and is particularly good at search and rescue work, and is widely praised for its high obedience.
Although it is called the Australian Shepherd, it is actually mainly bred in the United States. The lineage is inherited from the Collie, and the origin of the earliest lineage can be traced back to France and the Basco region of Spain.
After World War II, with the popularity of horse riding in the West, the Australian Shepherd also rose. The breed gradually became known to the public through cowboy competitions, horse shows, movies and TV shows. The Australian Shepherd's inherent versatility and easy training make it a valuable asset for farms and ranches.
Previously, this dog was not well-known in other countries except the United States, but now the dog's popularity has greatly increased because of its easy training, loyalty to its owner and good looks. Initially, the Australian Shepherd was mainly used as a working dog in California, and it could adapt to the local changeable climate. Later, this dog was also used as an ornamental dog and a military dog. It has made great contributions in rescue and exploration. The temperament of this dog is similar to that of the Golden Retriever and Labrador Retriever. It is emotional and playful, but still retains a basic working nature. Since this dog is not the offspring of planned breeding, reducing its size is still a goal for some breeding experts. The Australian Shepherd Club was established in the United States and has been recognized by the American Kennel Club. There is currently a miniature Australian Shepherd in the United States, which is bred from normal-sized dogs to bring a family companion to the Australian Shepherd. Australian Shepherds are famous for their unique fur patterns, which are varied and complex, and no two of them look alike.
After the Australian Shepherd entered the family and became a pet dog, its IQ was far higher than that of its counterparts on the ranch. After entering the complex social interaction of humans, it stimulated its intelligence to further develop, making the domestic Australian Shepherd smarter and interacting with the owner more smoothly and happily.
