The German Flat Terrier originated in Germany in 1879. It is a relatively large terrier. It is mostly used as a helper on farms and was originally used to catch mice.
It may be related to the black and brown terrier. The Second World War made this breed endangered. After Mr. Werner's efforts, it was saved from the danger of extinction. According to statistics, there was no record of German flat dogs giving birth from 1949 to 1957.
Mr. Werner started to restore this breed from an older purebred female dog he found. All current German Flat Terriers originated from this female dog. This breed has the black and brown markings unique to the Flat Terrier system. Whether it is a Doberman, a German Flat Terrier, or a Standard Flat Terrier, dark brown and various shades of tan can also be seen on the body. The body is balanced, muscular, strong, square-shaped, medium-sized, and the lines are elegant and smooth. It was registered and recognized by the Federal Kennel Club in 1991.
Although it is not big in size, it has the unique character of a terrier. It will not give in when fighting. Because the German Flat Terrier has a slender head shape and no back of the head, it is very obvious when viewed from the front, so it is called a Flat Terrier. In everyone's eyes, it is also a very interesting mouse catcher.
