The Latin name of the spotted carp is Percocypris pingi regani, a species of fish belonging to the genus Sinapis of the family Cyprinidae of the order Cypriniformes.

The spotted carp lives in the middle and upper layers of open water. It moves quickly and is a ferocious fish that specializes in hunting small fish and reproduces in spring. Common weight is 0.5-1kg, and the largest is 15kg. It has plump meat and is a large economic fish.

Distributed in the Lancang River and Nanpan River systems.
The body is slightly flattened laterally. The head is relatively long, with a bulge behind the back of the head. The mouth is subsuperior, obliquely cleft, and the lower jaw is prominent. There are two pairs of whiskers. The gill slits are large, and the distance between the gill membrane and the gill slit is very small. The dorsal fin spines are weak, with fine teeth on the rear edge. The scales are small, and the chest and abdomen scales are even smaller, and are shallowly buried under the skin. The lateral line is slightly curved downward. There are black spots on the upper side of the body.
