Kunming catfish is a carnivorous fish that likes to live in lakeshores with abundant aquatic plants. It hides at the bottom of the water during the day and is active in the morning and evening to look for food.

Kunming catfish was originally a common fish in Dianchi Lake and one of the edible economic fish. Due to the rapid increase in the population around the origin, a large amount of domestic sewage was discharged into the lake, causing the lake water to become eutrophic; secondly, industrial wastewater was injected into the lake, causing the water quality to deteriorate, and then long-term overfishing; at the same time, the introduction of some other fish species into the lake and other factors have caused the population of Kunming catfish to decrease sharply. It has been almost extinct since the 1970s.

The Red List of the World Conservation Union (IUCN) listed Kunming catfish as endangered (EN) in 2003, and it was changed to critically endangered (CR) in 2008.
The "Red List of Chinese Species" and the "Red Book of Endangered Animals in China - Fishes" both list the Kunming catfish as endangered (EN).

Listed in the second level of the "List of Nationally Protected Wildlife in China".

Protect wildlife and eliminate game.

Maintaining ecological balance is everyone's responsibility!
