Sharp-finned carp is a unique species of carp that lives in the brackish and freshwater waters of a few estuaries in the South my country Sea for a long time. It has a mixed diet. Under natural conditions, it mainly feeds on aquatic invertebrate benthic organisms (such as gastropods, carps and polychaetes). It also feeds on free-swimming organisms and other animal and plant baits (such as small fish, shrimps, water plants, algae, etc.). Under artificial breeding conditions, it can feed on various artificial baits such as vegetable cakes, bean cakes, bran, No. 4 flour, and artificial compound feeds. It grows fastest with feeds containing more than 35% crude protein. Before sexual maturity, it starts to feed when the water temperature reaches above 10℃, and the food intake is the largest and the growth is the fastest at 22-28℃.
It can safely overwinter in general freshwater ponds, seawater aquaculture ponds and low-dam high-net ponds. It has a strong ability to adapt to salt. It can grow normally in waters with a salinity of 0-20%. It is a medium-sized fish in estuarine brackish water. However, individuals with embryonic development and less than 10 cm can only live normally in a salinity range of 0-7.5‰. Common individuals are 0.5-1.5 kg. The maximum weight can reach 8.5-9.0 kg. According to the breeding results in Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Fujian, Guangdong, Zhuhai and other places, sharp-finned carp can grow normally in various water bodies, and the best effect is in brackish and fresh waters.
Sharp-finned carp has strong disease resistance. After routine disinfection and pond cleaning, bacterial diseases are generally rare, but parasitic fish diseases such as cat fleas and small melon worms should be prevented, and conventional fish pond pesticides can be used for prevention and control.
The breeding period of sharp-finned carp is relatively long, from February to July each year. Under natural conditions, female fish reach sexual maturity at the age of 2 and male fish at the age of 1+. The suitable reproductive age is 2+ to 50. During the flood season of rivers every year, the parent sea carp that hibernate in the freshwater areas of the river mouths will flock upstream to the freshwater areas where there are grasses and soil to spawn and reproduce.
