In addition to a pair of long tail whiskers, the tail of this type of insect also has a middle tail filament, hence the name tassel. The body is 4-20 mm long, narrow and tapered at the end, and the body surface is often covered with scales. The antennae are long, filamentous, and have sharp ends. The mouthparts are exogenous and chewing. There are often spikes on the basal and abdominal segments of the feet, and there are vesicles on the abdominal plates. There are 2-3 tarsal segments and 2-3 claws. Females have ovipositors.

There are 370 known species in the world, and about 20 species have been recorded in my country. This order is divided into two categories: stone fish and silverfish, and some scholars divide them into two orders. The stone's compound eyes are large, connected to the left and right, and the body is bulging. Lives on mountain rocks and coastal reefs. The body color is usually similar to that of its habitat, making it difficult to spot. If you wave your hand on a rock, you will see rocks crawling and jumping. The compound eyes of the silverfish are small and far away from each other or degraded, and the body is flat. They mostly live indoors and can often be seen in collectibles such as clothes, books, and paintings. They sometimes crawl on walls and are a hazard to books, calligraphy, and paintings.

The characteristics of this order can be summarized as follows: prestomal tassels, antennae with long filaments; tail barbels with middle filaments and twenty-nine vesicular spines.
