Insects Zoraptera (Zoraptera)

2023-03-17 02:52:48 114

This order is a primitive and rare insect with a gregarious living habit. Anoptera is the smallest order in the class Insecta and the least understood. This order was first established in 1913. Since the initially discovered species were all wingless, they were named Apoptera. The winged species were only discovered later.

Body length rarely exceeds 3-4 mm. The wingspan of the winged type is about 7 mm. Body flat, brown or dark black. The head is large, the antennae are bead-shaped, and the mouthparts are chewing. Often wingless, the winged type has narrow and long wings. Membranous, with simple wing veins. The abdomen has 10 segments, and the tail barbels are short and not segmented. Females have no ovipositor.

There are 27 species in 1 family and 1 genus known in the world, most of which are distributed in tropical and subtropical areas near the equator. They mostly live in evergreen broad-leaved forests, under the bark of fallen or broken trees. Usually larvae and adults gather together and run around to escape after being disturbed, which is very lively and interesting. Only in 1973 and 1974 did my country discover two species of hypopterygoids in Tibet, which were named Pteroptera sinensis (imitation of Chen Ruijin's picture) and Pterostilida medullaris respectively.

Characteristics of this order can be summarized as follows: Anthoptera with nine antennae segments, one tail and two tarsus segments; wingless, those with wings often fall off, and live in seclusion in high temperature and high humidity places.
