Butterflies are dioecious insects, and male and female butterflies have their own secondary characteristics. However, in nature, there are also individual butterfly individuals that possess both male and female sexual characteristics on the same body. This type of individual is called a hermaphrodite, which is what we call a hermaphrodite butterfly (imitating the P.Smart picture).
