The Quail (Philortyx fasciatus) is a ground-dwelling bird, usually living in small groups of about a dozen individuals, sometimes in larger groups of up to 30 individuals. When startled, they run around in panic, which can make potential predators run away.
The quails feed mainly on worms of the genus leech and seeds of the genus hyostomum, but also on sunflowers, thistles, corn kernels, crotons, and seeds of cultivated plants. Breeding occurs in August-September and is monogamous, with an average of five eggs per litter. A nest made of grass on the roof of a house in captivity, incubating for 25 days.
