Black quail is found in Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia and Malaysia. Regional extinction: Singapore.
Black quail inhabits the virgin lowland forests of Malaysia, closed evergreen forests; In the peat swamp forests of Sumatra and Kalimantan, Indonesia. Living environment from sea level to altitude of 1200 meters.
Form
The quail is 24-27 cm long and weighs 290 grams. Easily distinguished from other quails, they are known for their short, thick beaks. The male has black plumage, so it's easy to identify. In contrast, the upper body of the female is chestnut brown, which usually corresponds to the cream-colored throat, abdomen, and arms of the lower body. Both sexes have gray legs and feet.
