The East African Crested chicken has a body length of 46-56 cm, a wingspan of 75-100 cm and a weight of 721-1573 g. There is a distinctive black crest formed by curly feathers, the shape of which varies according to the subspecies, the bare skin on the head and neck is gray-blue, and there are large red spots around the eyes and on the forehead and throat.
