Location
It is distributed in Angola, Benin, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Cote d 'Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, United Republic of Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia.
It inhabits forest margins, secondary forests, forest belts and grassland shrubland.
Form
The West African crested chicken has a body length of 46-56 cm, a wingspan of 75-100 cm, and a weight of 910-1160 grams. It has a distinctive black top, curly feathers forming a crest, the bare skin on the head and neck is smooth gray-blue, and the throat is red. The plumage is thick black with dense white spots. The irises are dark brown, the beak pink, and the legs grey.
