Recently, staff at the Qingxin Baiwan Provincial Nature Reserve in Guangdong discovered the "fairy among birds" for the first time while sorting out infrared camera data.

The Fairy Thrush is named after its eight colors of feathers, including chestnut head, light yellow eyebrow lines, black cheeks, white throat, bright red belly, gray underparts, dark green wings and bright blue shoulders. . The Fairy Thrush has been included in the "International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List of Endangered Species", with a global population of 10,000.

     Jumping and walking on the ground. The flight is straight and low, and the flight speed is slow. It mainly feeds on insects. It often digs in the soil with its beak in leaf litter to feed on earthworms, centipedes and lepidopteran larvae. It also eats Coleoptera and other insects.


The emergence of this vulnerable bird, the Fairy-colored Thrush, reflects the achievements of Guangdong’s Qingxin Baiwan Provincial Nature Reserve in biodiversity protection and ecological restoration.

Since the deployment of infrared cameras in the Qingxinbaiwan Provincial Nature Reserve in Guangdong, a variety of national and provincial key protected wild animals such as leopard cats, white pheasants, spotted civets, barking deer, lesser muntjacs, and Chinese porcupines have been photographed. In the next step, the reserve will continue to monitor wild animals and plants, increase publicity efforts, and lay a solid foundation for building a fresh ecology where humans and nature live in harmony.
