Rufous-bellied Hawk Eagle is a medium-sized bird of prey with two subspecies.

Rufous-bellied Hawk Eagle mostly moves alone, is not good at singing, often stands on trees or between grass on the ground for a long time, and sometimes flies in the air. When flying, the wings flap frequently, and the speed is extremely fast and flexible. It mainly feeds on animals such as chickens, kingfishers, pigeons, and mice. The main way of foraging is to ambush in the bushes or grass, waiting for the animals to come and then suddenly attack, and sometimes run on the ground to chase prey. In the open space in the forest, sometimes stand on isolated trees or fly in the sky, observe and look for prey, and suddenly dive down to catch them after finding them.

The breeding season of the brown-bellied falcon is from mid-December to mid-March of the following year. It usually nests on the top branches of tall trees in dense forests. The structure of the nest is huge and rough, mainly composed of dead branches, and padded with fresh green leaves. Each pair usually has two nests to choose from, sometimes using this one and sometimes using the other. If the breeding is successful, the old nest can be used for many years. Usually one egg is laid per nest, and the egg is laid on the green leaves in the nest. If the green leaves wither, the parent birds will replace them with fresh ones in time. The color of the eggs is dark grayish white, some have small light red spots, some have thicker spots, and sometimes have light purple or blue-gray bottom spots. The parents take turns to incubate the eggs, and they are very protective of the nest and territorial, especially during the breeding period, when they become more fierce and more aggressive.
