Zigong dinosaurs refer to a group of dinosaur fossils found in Zigong City, Sichuan Province, China. These fossils are well preserved, abundant in number, and have important scientific research value. The most famous of them is the Velociraptor fossil found in the Jokhang Temple Formation.
According to archaeologists, due to geological changes and crustal movement, about 150 million years ago in the middle Jurassic period, strong volcanic activity occurred in the Zigong area, causing some dinosaurs to die and be buried in volcanic ash, eventually forming a rich dinosaur fossil resource.
In addition to Velociraptor, Zigong dinosaurs also include Innovosaurus, Diplodocus, Ornithopods and other species. The size, ecological habits and bone characteristics of these dinosaurs are different, reflecting the diversity of dinosaurs in the long evolutionary process.
In recent years, Zigong Dinosaur has become one of the important bases for dinosaur research in Sichuan Province and even the whole country, attracting many scientists and dinosaur enthusiasts to conduct research and investigation.
