The hippopotamus is a mammal belonging to the family Hippopotamus, with the scientific name Hippopotamus amphibius. They are one of the largest semi-aquatic mammals in the world and live in rivers, lakes and swamps in Africa.

Hippopotamus have a huge head and thick body, short and thick limbs, and webbed feet, which are adapted to walking and swimming in water. They are usually active at night and spend the day resting in the water or in the grass near river banks. Hippos feed on plants, especially grass. They need to eat an amount of food equivalent to 1/3 of their body weight every day.

Although hippos look clumsy and gentle, they are actually very dangerous animals due to their aggressive and threatening teeth. Therefore, when encountering hippos in the wild, people should keep their distance and approach with caution.
