The platypus is a semi-aquatic mammal that is considered an oddity among mammals. They are endemic to Australia and are found only in freshwater habitats in eastern and southern Australia. Platypuses have attracted widespread attention for their unique appearance and behavior. They have the beak of a bird, the body of a mammal, and the paws of a reptile, while being able to dive into water to capture prey using electrosensors. Because the platypus is a protected animal, hunting or disturbing wild animals such as the platypus is strictly prohibited in Australia.
