The grosbeak is a large songbird with a strong beak and prominent throat, mainly distributed in North, Central and South America. It belongs to the order Passeriformes, family Passerine, and is a striking and beautiful bird.
The grosbeak is usually about 20-25 cm long and weighs about 40-70 grams. Their beaks are very strong and conical, which is suitable for pecking hard seeds and fruits. The head, neck and abdomen of these birds are mostly bright red, orange or yellow, and the wings and back are mostly brown or black.
Different species of grosbeak have different habits and diets. For example, the Rose-breasted Grosbeak feeds mainly on insects, snakes, snails, earthworms and fruits, while the Black-headed Grosbeak prefers to eat seeds and insects.
Due to its striking and beautiful appearance and unique call, the Grosbeak is often kept as a pet bird, but this behavior is not recommended because birds should live in a natural environment, not in a cage.
