Can influenza A be transmitted to cats?

2023-07-03 17:47:53 159

According to current scientific research, influenza A viruses are mainly spread through direct contact between people or air droplets. Although cats can also be infected by some influenza viruses, influenza A viruses are not typically transmitted to cats.

However, there is still a risk of other respiratory infections between humans and cats, such as Feline Calicivirus and Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis. These diseases are relatively common in cat populations and can be spread through direct contact, airborne droplets, or shared objects.

If you are infected with the influenza A virus or other respiratory illness, the following precautions are recommended to protect your cat:

1. Separation: Try to separate yourself from your cat and avoid close contact and sharing items.

2. Hygiene measures: Wash your hands frequently, especially after contact with cats. Clean hands thoroughly with warm water and soap.

3. Observation of symptoms: Pay attention to the health status of the cat. If symptoms such as abnormal behavior, loss of appetite, difficulty breathing, etc. occur, consult a veterinarian in time.

If you have any concerns or questions about your cat's health, please consult your veterinarian for professional advice.
