Why is the cat drooling?

There are several possible reasons why your cat may drool. Here are some common scenarios:

1. Excitement or Anticipation of Food: Cats may start drooling when they are hungry or anticipating the food they are about to receive. This is a normal physiological reaction.

2. Taste stimulation: Certain foods, herbs or other irritants may cause increased saliva secretion in cats. For example, some cats are very sensitive to cat grass and may drool after eating it.

3. Normal digestion: During the eating process, the cat’s saliva helps moisten the food and aids chewing and digestion. Therefore, they often drool while eating.

4. Mood changes: Cats may drool when they are nervous, excited, or anxious. This may occur when facing unfamiliar surroundings, visiting the veterinarian, or performing other stressful activities.

5. Oral problems: Certain oral problems, such as gingivitis, canker sores, or oral infections, may also cause your cat to drool. If you notice an abnormal increase in your cat's drooling, accompanied by bad breath, red and swollen gums, or other abnormal symptoms, it is recommended to take your cat to the veterinarian for a check-up.

Although drooling is a normal physiological reaction in cats, if you think something is unusual or you are concerned about your cat's health, it is best to consult your veterinarian for professional advice.
