Don’t know about crocodiles and crocodiles? You're probably not alone. Although these large reptiles belong to different families, they share many similarities, including long snouts, powerful tails, short legs, and bony backs. But there are some easy ways to tell them apart.

The first is the shape of the nose. Alligators are wider and have a U-shape, while crocodiles are narrower and have a V-shape.

Next are the teeth. In crocodiles, the lower teeth are usually not visible when the mouth is closed. However, some teeth appear in the crocodile's lower jaw, most notably a large fourth tooth. Another difference is the color. Gray or black? This could be a crocodile. Olive or tan? A crocodile.

The two reptiles also differ in their positioning. Crocodiles typically live in saltwater habitats, while alligators prefer freshwater areas.

Last but not least is behavior. Crocodiles are generally more aggressive than crocodiles.
