How to determine a cat’s age

Judging the age of a cat can be initially estimated based on the following indicators:

1. Dental condition: Looking at your cat’s teeth can provide some clues. A kitten's deciduous teeth begin to grow within a few weeks of birth, and fall out around 4-6 months of age to be replaced by an adult cat's permanent teeth. If the cat has a complete set of deciduous teeth, it is likely a kitten; if it has a complete set of permanent teeth, it is likely an adult cat.

2. Teeth Wear: Older cats’ teeth often show more wear, and the tooth surface may become smoother and have obvious signs of wear.

3. Activity level and behavior: Young cats are usually more active and curious, and like to play and explore their environment; older cats may be calmer and have less activity levels.

4. Muscle mass: Young cats are usually muscular, while older cats may show skinny features due to muscle loss.

5. Coat condition: Older cats may show signs of white or gray hair, while kittens' hair is usually softer and shinier.

It’s important to note that these indicators only provide rough estimates and cannot determine your cat’s specific age. If you want to know exactly how old your cat is, the most reliable way is to consult a veterinarian. Your veterinarian can accurately determine your cat's age through physical exams, dental exams, and other professional assessments.
