Platyhelminthes refers to animals with flat left and right sides of the body and front and rear ends at the upper and lower ends. For most platyhelminthes, they are animals with oro-anal obturator tubes. This means they have only one opening in their body, the mouth, through which all feeding and excretion occurs. Therefore, they do not have a well-defined anus. The intake of food and the discharge of waste are completed through this opening.
However, this is not the case for all platyhelminthes. Some more advanced platyhelminthes have evolved rear-end anuses. The emergence of this feature allows waste excretion to be carried out independently of the feeding port, improving the function of the digestive system.
In general, most platyhelminthes do not have a clear anus, but use an oro-anal closed canal for feeding and excretion. Some highly evolved platyhelminthes also have independent anal structures, which makes their biological system functions more diverse.
