Ochetobibus elongatus belongs to the order Cyprinidae, Cyprinidae, Ochetobibus subfamily, and genus Ochetobibus elongatus. Commonly known as: Diao Zi, Wheat Straw Diao, Chang Diao, Diao Gan.


The body is slender and approximately cylindrical. The head is small and cone-shaped. The mouth is small and terminal, with straight orifice and no beard. There are 3 rows of hypopharyngeal teeth, wide and smooth, with hook-shaped ends. The dorsal fin has no spines and its starting point is opposite to the pelvic fin. The caudal fin is deeply forked and both lobes are pointed at the ends. The back of the body is blue-green, the abdomen is silvery, and there is a light yellow-green longitudinal band above the middle of the body side; the even fins and anal fins are orange, and the tail fin is gray-black.

It looks like a catfish, but has a gentler temperament and has the habit of migrating from rivers and lakes. They enter lakes for fattening from July to September every year, and return to river rapids for reproduction during the reproductive season. The reproductive season is from April to June, and the age of sexual maturity is 3-5 winter years. The spawning site requires flowing water, and reproduction cannot occur in still water. Most of the food consists of animal ingredients, such as aquatic insects, cladocerans, small fish, shrimp, etc.


It is produced in all types of water bodies in the Yangtze River Basin of my country and its south.


Although the growth rate is not fast, the largest individual only reaches more than 10 kilograms, and the most common ones are 0.5-1 kilograms. However, it is widely distributed, and the meat is tender and delicious, so it is very popular for consumption.
