The body is cylindrical, the abdomen is flat, and the tail is flat on the sides. The head is slightly flat, the top of the head is slightly convex, and the ventral surface of the head is flat; the snout is prominent, blunt and broad, with an obvious horny process on each side. It is located below the mouth and is slightly curved. The subcutaneous bag of the mouth is connected to the upper lip and covers the upper jaw. The edge is split into tassels and is covered with small papillae. The lower lip is broad, with a small horseshoe-shaped suction cup bulged in front and on both sides in the middle, and the trailing edge of the lip is free. The cuticles on the upper and lower jaw edges are not sharp. There are 2 pairs of barbels, the muzzle is longer. The dorsal fin has no spines. The scales are small. The body is gray and black, the back is jet black, and the abdomen is milky white; each fin is gray and black, and there may be black spots on the membrane between the dorsal fins. The upper and lower leaves of the tail fin may have black stripes, there is a black spot on the upper corner of the gill cover, and there are black spots on the scales on the side of the body, forming 6-7 rows of vertical stripes.
The four-bearded panfish likes to live in the upper reaches of rivers and mountain streams, and mostly inhabits flowing water on the gravel bottom. Distributed in Beijiang, Xijiang and other tributaries of the Pearl River system.
