The body is long and prismatic, with flat sides, no obvious bulge on the back of the head, and ribs from the base of the pelvic fin to the anus. The head is small and pointed. The muzzle is short, blunt, and prominent. The mouth is subsuperior and cleft obliquely. No need. The eyes are large and located in front of the center of the head. The scales are thin and fall off easily. The lateral line is located below the central axis of the body, the front end is slightly downward curved, and the lateral line scales are 45-47. The dorsal fin is set behind; the pectoral fin has a pointed tip; the pelvic fin is short; the anal fin has many rays and a long base; the caudal fin is deeply forked. The back of the body is gray, the lower side and abdomen are silvery white, there are gray vertical stripes on the central axis of the body, the tail fin is gray, and the other fins are slightly transparent.


Lives in relatively clear still water or slow-flowing rivers and streams. The wild population is very small. It is mainly distributed in Taiwan Province. In addition, it is also distributed in some river systems in Hainan Island, Qinzhou (Qinjiang) in Guangxi, and the Xijiang River from Teng County in Guangxi to Luoping County in Yunnan. In recent years, small rivers in the south have been affected by natural and man-made factors, resulting in changes in the original environmental conditions, which has greatly affected the growth and reproduction of the Taiwanese bream.
