In terms of the number of dinosaurs discovered, China has surpassed the United States. At present, China has become a "treasure house" of dinosaur fossils and the well-deserved world "overlord" in the field of dinosaur exploration. Why not take a dinosaur tour together?

1. Heilongjiang Manchurian dragon

The first dinosaur fossil discovered in my country

Heilongjiang Manchusaurus is a species of Ornithopod, Hadrosauridae, and Manchusaurus. It is herbivorous, with a body length of about 8 meters, and lived in the late Cretaceous period of the Mesozoic Era. The fossil was found in Northeast China and is the first dinosaur fossil discovered in my country. Heilongjiang Manchusaurus was discovered in Jiayin, Heilongjiang in 1902 and is known as "China's first dragon". Later, the fossil was transported to Russia and named Heilongjiang Manchusaurus in 1930. The holotype fossil of Heilongjiang Manchusaurus is now in the Geological Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia.

2. Shishi's Pan-footed Dragon

China's first sauropod dinosaur

Swedish explorer Zdansky excavated two incomplete sauropod skeletons in Ningjiagou. Transport to Uppsala University in Sweden was done by Wiman. Discopodosaurus was discovered in Mengyin, Shandong Province from 1922 to 1923 by Austrian Steinski and Chinese geologist Tan Xichou. The fossil was transported to Uppsala University in Sweden and named Discopodus in 1929. Foot dragon.

3. Xu's Lufenglong

China's first mounted dinosaur fossil

Lufengosaurus xu is a genus of prosauropod dinosaur that lived in southwestern China during the early to middle Jurassic period. The fossil specimen was found in Lufeng, Yunnan Province, China. Lufengosaurus xu is one of the oldest dinosaurs discovered in China. Lufengosaurus Xu was discovered in Lufeng, Yunnan in 1938. It was the first dinosaur discovered, excavated, studied and put on display by the Chinese.

4. Spiny-nosed Qingdao dragon

The first dinosaur fossil discovered after the founding of New China

Spiny-nosed Qingdaosaurus is the most famous crested duck-billed dinosaur fossil discovered in my country, and is also the first complete dinosaur fossil discovered in my country. The existing specimens are preserved in the China Museum of Paleontology. Spiny-nosed Qingdaoosaurus was discovered in Laiyang, Shandong in 1950.

5. Hechuan Mamenchisaurus

One of the largest sauropod dinosaurs discovered in China

Its fossil was found at the Maming River Ferry in Yibin City. After scientific identification, it belongs to the sauropod "Imma". The total length of this animal is about 22 meters, and its body height is nearly 7 meters. Its neck is particularly long, equivalent to half of its body length. Not only are each cervical vertebrae that make up the neck long, but there are also as many as 19 cervical vertebrae, which is the most among sauropods. In addition, the neck is also the longest among all dinosaurs. Compared with the cervical vertebrae, the dorsal vertebrae and sacral vertebrae and tail vertebrae are relatively few.

6. Giant Shandong Dragon

The world's largest hadrosaur on display

The giant Shandongosaurus is a species of the ornithopod dinosaur, the family Hadrosauridae, and the genus Shandongosaurus. It is herbivorous, 8 meters high and 15 meters long, with a flat head and no crest. It is the representative of the flat-headed duck-billed dinosaur. Lived in the late Cretaceous period of the Mesozoic Era. The fossil specimen was found in Shandong Province, China. The giant Shandonglong was discovered in Zhucheng, Shandong in 1964, and was about 14.7 meters long.

7. Taibai Huayang Dragon

The world’s most primitive and best-preserved Stegosaurus discovered

Taibai Huayangosaurus is a medium-sized primitive stegosaurus with a body length of 4.3 meters. Its main characteristics are a large and thick head, triangular shape, a short neck, and its forelimbs are much shorter than its hind legs, but it walks on all fours. The two rows of bony plates on the back are relatively small and changeable in shape, and there are two pairs of plate-like tail spines at the tail end. Existing specimens are displayed in the Zigong Dinosaur Museum and Chongqing Museum. Taibai Huayanglong was discovered in Zigong, Sichuan.

8. Sinosaurus

The world's most complete "feathered dinosaur" discovered

Sinosauropteryx lived in the Early Cretaceous, 140 million years ago. Its fossils were discovered in the Jehol Biota in western Liaoning, China, in 1996. At first it was thought to be a primitive bird and named "Sinosaurus", but later it was confirmed to be a "feathered dinosaur". It provides evidence for the ancestry relationship between dinosaurs and birds, and is of epoch-making significance in the history of dinosaur research.

9. Microraptor Gu's

It is the most complete, smallest and four-winged dinosaur discovered in the world.

Microraptor Gu's is the first flying dinosaur discovered so far. Regarding the mystery of the origin of bird flight, there have been two major inferences in the academic community for more than a hundred years: the "arboreal origin theory" and the "terrestrial origin theory". This issue is still controversial today. Microraptor Gu was discovered in Beipiao, Liaoning Province. It may have been an arboreal dweller, which provides evidence for the evolution of small dinosaurs into birds.
