Triceratops is one of the world's most famous dinosaurs, known for its parrot-like beak, three facial horns and the large frill at the base of its skull. This dinosaur lived during the late Cretaceous period about 68-66 million years ago.
It is the largest ceratopsian dinosaur, about twice as long and heavy as the African elephant.
Large frills can be seen in all ceratopsians. The skull of Pentaceratops, including the frill, was probably over two meters long. Some scientists believe that in life, ceratopsian frills may have been colorful to attract mates.
Triceratops is the largest ceratopsian dinosaur. The skeleton is on display in the Dinosaur Gallery at the British Museum of Natural History.
