Megalodon is the earliest dinosaur discovered, but it lived in the Jurassic period. As early as 1677, a British priest described its scattered bones. Unfortunately, the priest did not know what kind of animal had such a large skeleton, so he described it as the remains of a "giant".
Until 1824, the British mineralogist Buckland named Megalodon based on the bones of some vertebrates. Megalodon was longer than two rhinoceroses, and its large mouth was filled with large, pointed teeth. The size of each tooth was equivalent to the entire jaw of a small mammal at that time. The teeth of Megalodon were curved backwards and barbed, with serrated edges, like a serrated dagger, and the roots of its teeth were deep in the jaws, making even the most intense biting battles difficult. Loosening the teeth, the gentle plant-eating dinosaur was no match for the hungry Megalodon.
In addition to its terrifying mouth, Megalodon also had more powerful weapons on its hands and feet—long sharp claws. The Megalodon had sharp claws on both its front and rear limbs. These claws could easily tear through the tough skin of prey and then shred the meat under the skin, showing its ferocity.
Although the Megalodon's body is a bit bulky and its movements are not very agile, it is strong and powerful and is persistent in hunting down prey. This carnivorous dinosaur once roamed across vast areas such as North America, Europe, Asia and Africa, usually using small-scale hunting methods to obtain food. It was a terrifying large carnivorous dinosaur.
A Megalodon fossil remains were discovered in a quarry in Oxfordshire, England in 1818. Since then, as many as 25 dinosaurs have been named Megalodon. In fact, this name has been given to many theropod dinosaurs that cannot be clearly identified.
