The Sanhe tame lemur (scientific name: Hapalemur occidentalis) lives in tropical rainforests or dry forests or shrubs. Some live in bamboo forests, reed areas or forestless mountains. They are active during the day or at night, eating insects, fruits, reeds, leaves, and occasionally birds. They live alone or in family groups. They hibernate, and females reproduce in June and July each year, giving birth to 1-2 pups per litter, with a gestation period of 120-129 days.

Listed in the 2013 Red List of Threatened Species of the World Conservation Union (IUCN) ver 3.1 - Vulnerable (VU).

It is found in northwest Madagascar, in the Ankarana and Analamerana regions, throughout the northwest of the Sambirano region and in the Ampasindava Peninsula, Mahajanga and Diego Suárez.
The total length of the Sanhe lemur is 55-67 cm, half of which is the length of the tail. It has dense fur, a brown-red crown, brown body hair, bluish-gray cheeks, orange-yellow round eyes like beans, a tail longer than the body, dense and long tail hair, mostly in the shape of a broom; large eyes; an elongated snout, shaped like a fox mouth; dense fur on the outer ear shell; hind limbs longer than forelimbs, with flat nails on the fingers and toes; 36 teeth, but no upper incisors.
