The scientific name of the East African gorilla is Gorilla beringei. There are two subspecies, namely the East African lowland gorilla and the mountain gorilla. They like to live in dense forests and form small families as social units, with a population of up to 40. A group is led by a male leader, and its members include several females and their children. They are not territorial, and the living range of a group can overlap with other groups. They are herbivorous and mainly feed on fruits, leaves and branches. They spend most of their time looking for food and resting. They are usually docile, but very scary when angry. They use large leaves to cover their bodies on rainy days.

Distributed in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, and Uganda.
East African gorillas are large in size, with males up to 1.7 meters tall and females up to 1.5 meters tall. Males weigh 160 kilograms and females weigh 90 kilograms. They have no hip calluses, their forelimbs can be longer than the knees, and their faces are less hairy. Males are larger than females, and when standing, their arms hang down to their ankles; their arms and hands are strong and powerful, and their legs are short and not as strong as their arms.
