Callimico goeldii Life habits and morphological characteristics

The monkey is named after the 2-3 light brown rings at the base of its tail. It is slightly larger than a squirrel, with a body length of 18-21.5 cm, a tail longer than the body, 25-32.5 cm, and a weight of 420-500 grams; it has a round head, a slightly protruding snout, large and round ears that are hairless and membranous; its hair is smooth, soft and dense, shiny black-brown, with longer hair from the head, neck to shoulders, and the hair on the buttocks that is long enough to cover the base of the tail, which is fluffy; its forelimbs are slightly shorter than its hindlimbs, and except for the flat nail on the big toe, the rest of the fingers and toes have claw-like nails.

The scientific name of the ring-tailed monkey is Callimico goeldii, which is a rare small monkey.

Ring-tailed monkeys live in groups in the middle layers of trees, with 20 to 30 in each group. They are agile during the day and are difficult to catch. They mainly eat fruits, leaves, insects, bird eggs or small vertebrates. The gestation period is about 5 months, and one cub is born each time.
