Cebus malitiosus, Life habits and morphological characteristics

The head and body length of the male Santa Marta capuchin is about 45.7 cm, and the tail is about 43.3 cm long. It is sexually dimorphic, with males larger than females. The head is small, and the trunk and limbs are slender. The back is light brown, and the ventral side is lighter, usually yellow and red. The dorsal hair is long and soft, and the ventral hair is short and rough. There is a circular black patch on the top of the head, and the female has a tuft of hair in front of this patch. The face is covered with sparse light hair, the cheeks are peachy, and there is a thin white border around the face. A stripe slightly darker than the body color runs parallel to the spine. The limbs are yellow and reddish brown.

Cebus malitiosus, Distribution range and habitat

It inhabits dry tropical forests, tropical lowland forests, submontane and montane forests. From sea level to altitudes up to 1,300 meters. It is limited to northern Colombia, where it is found in deciduous and tropical rainforests on the northeastern slopes of the Santa Marta Mountains.
