The scientific name of the black howler monkey is Alouatta caraya. It mainly eats fruits, leaves and seeds. They move in groups, move slowly on branches, and occasionally jump between branches. The throat is large and can make loud calls. Black howler monkeys like to sleep during the day and become active at dusk and dawn. When climbing trees, their hands, feet and tails will hold the tree tightly at the same time, climb carefully, and rarely jump. They are very picky about food and only eat certain types of leaves, buds, flowers and fruits. Because of this, they are difficult to keep in zoos, so their deafening roars are not heard in zoos. In nature, a howler monkey family usually consists of 10 members. They spend most of their time in high trees and are very good at hiding themselves. They sometimes climb up trees without any cover to look around, perhaps to see their territory clearly and comfort themselves. If someone approaches them, they will run away, and only female monkeys with children will appear hesitant.
