Details
The Amazon spider monkey's scientific name is Ateles marginatus. It is named because of its slender limbs. When it moves on the tree, it looks like a giant spider from a distance. It has dense hair, a small round head, and a tail that is longer than its body length, up to 80 cm, and is very entangled. It moves in small groups during the day and forages in large groups of hundreds at night. When it encounters an enemy, it will sound an alarm and constantly throw branches and feces at the intruder.
Due to its small habitat and hunting, its numbers have dropped dramatically. Perhaps the most endangered of all South American spider monkeys, it may already be extinct.
Listed in the IUCN Red List of Primates in 2008 - Endangered (EN).
