The crested white-browed monkey (scientific name: Cercocebus galeritus), also known as the Tana River mangabey, is a medium-sized long-tailed monkey with no subspecies.
The Crested White-browed Monkey is a diurnal monkey species that lives in family groups of about 10 to 36, mostly female groups. It is active during the day and is most active in the early morning and dusk. On the surface, they usually move slowly and leisurely. But in fact, they are agile, with fast speed and reaction. The main food is: fruits, nuts, seeds, leaves, tender branches, and occasionally small animals. They have wide cheek pouches that can be used to store food.
The gestation period of the crested white-browed monkey is about 170 to 180 days, with one baby born in each litter. The life expectancy is between 19 and 21 years, but few people know the life history of this species.
The crested white-browed monkey is produced in the rainforest of the Tana River Basin in Africa. Due to the rapid increase in the population in the Tana River Basin, the rapid expansion of cultivated land, and the significant reduction in forest area, the crested white-browed monkey is in a very bad situation. In addition, the Tana River Dam is about to be built, and the river will no longer flood, and the ecological environment of the entire basin will be completely changed. Its fate is unimaginable.
