Characteristics and living habits of black gill surgeonfish

The black-gill surgeonfish has a sharp spine on each side of its tail handle. Juveniles are purple-yellow and adults are dark brown. There are orange spots on the front and back of the orbit. There are dense orange dark ripples on the side of the body. There is a black band from the upper end of the gill opening through the posterior edge of the gill cover to the cheek. Body length 20 cm. Distribution area: tropical waters of the Indian Ocean and tropical waters of the central and western Pacific Ocean.
