The dorsal fin of the mirror butterfly fish has 14 stubby fin spines, with the middle fin spine being the longest. There is a horizontal band on the head that is slightly narrower than the eye diameter. There is a large oval black spot on the side of the body across the lateral line, with one third of the black spot located above the lateral line. Caudal fin broad and short.
A small warm-water coral reef fish with a body length of generally 60 to 120 mm. A common species along the southern coast of Hainan Island in my country.
Distributed in the western Pacific. Our country is only found in the South China Sea.
