The world’s oldest cat, certified by Guinness, is equivalent to 120 years in humans

A cat named Flossie who lives in London has been declared the world's oldest cat by Guinness World Records. As of November 10, 2022, Flossie's age is 26 years and 316 days old.

Flossie was born in 1995 and lived happily with her first owner for ten years. After the first owner died, Flossie was adopted by the original owner's sister and lived happily for another 14 years. After the death of the second owner, Flossie lived with her son. Problems arose and the third owner made the difficult decision to hand Flossie over to Cats Protection volunteers.


Now the much-loved longevity feline has been adopted by Vicky Green from Orpington, and the new owner didn't expect to adopt a record-breaking feline. Vicki, who has previous cat experience, said Flossie was an "amazing cat" who had adapted well and slept snuggled up with her in bed.

Guinness World Records Editor-in-Chief Craig Grundy said: "We're delighted to meet the adorable Flossie and celebrate her longevity. It's not every day that you meet a cat born in the mid-1990s. More than 120 years old in humans. Flossie's age is matched by French supercentenarian Jeanne Calment, who lived 122 years and 164 days, holding the record for the longest lifespan ever recorded. We were delighted to see Flossie Sit back and enjoy his old age. We congratulate him, he is a well-deserved record breaker."


Vicki said she never thought she would live with a Guinness World Record holder. She said: “I knew Flossie was a special cat from the start, but I never thought I would adopt this Guinness World Record-holding cat. Flossie is so affectionate and playful, so far from it Older. Flossie is deaf and has reduced eyesight, but none of this seems to bother her. She is fully adapted to her current life, very enthusiastic and has a good appetite.
