According to the official website of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the team of Academician Gui Jianfang of the Institute of Hydrobiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences recently released the latest research results. After more than a year of hard work, they used genetic technology and fish precision breeding technology to breed a spineless fish.
The so-called happy head fish is crucian carp, and the corresponding result this time is the silver crucian carp mutant without intermuscular spines. According to experts, several of these "new silver crucian carps" are swimming nimbly in the water, and their appearance and actions are no different from ordinary fish.
Wuhan people love to eat fish, and the meat of Xitou fish is tender and delicious. It is one of the favorites of Wuhan people. However, the fish has many tiny spines and can easily get stuck in the throat, which is also very annoying. Recently, the team of Academician Gui Jianfang of the Institute of Hydrobiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences released the latest research results. After more than a year of hard work, they created a spineless fish head fish based on genetic technology and precise fish breeding technology.
According to expert science, the spineless mentioned here refers to the absence of small intermuscular spines, not boneless. Intermuscular spines are located in the intermuscular spaces on both sides of fish vertebrae and are membranous hard bone spines. When eating fish, everyone’s experience is that fish bones are easy to remove but fish bones are difficult to remove. It is often said that the fish has many fine spines, that is, there are more than 80 intermuscular spines in its body.
In fact, Gao Zexia's team at Huazhong Agricultural University bred the spineless Wuchang fish last year. Coincidentally, the spineless fishhead bred this time is based on the same gene as the spineless Wuchang fish bred by Gao Zexia's team. Through precision breeding technology, the main gene is completely deleted.
Regarding the meat quality and the growth status of the fish, this is what the research team will focus on in the next step.
