The origin of cats and their evolutionary history

2023-02-14 09:02:03 212

Cats originated in ancient Egypt, roughly in the center of Crete, Cyprus. Domestic cats began to exist in Egypt in 1600 BC (probably existing in a semi-wild state). At that time, they were mainly regarded as a kind of worship. Although there are records of cats in other countries outside Egypt, such as Greece and Palestine, cats are not common in these countries. Because the Egyptians did not allow cats to be taken out of Egypt, this may be why some people argue that Egypt is the main, or even the only, birthplace of modern domestic cats.

In 525 BC, a war broke out between Egypt and Persia. Once, a fierce battle broke out between the armies of the two countries in the ancient city of Perus on the Nile Delta. The two sides were evenly matched and at a stalemate. Later, the Persians came up with a way to kill their enemies. They found many domestic cats. When the soldiers from both sides were fighting, the Persian soldiers suddenly threw the cat on the Egyptian soldiers. When the Egyptians saw the cat, they all panicked and had no intention of fighting. The Persian army took the opportunity to swarm up, defeated the Egyptians, and captured the city of Perrus.

What is the special relationship between ancient Egyptians and cats? It turns out that the domesticated cats in our homes were originally wild cats that grew up in the wild. About 5,000 years ago, the ancient Egyptians living in the Nile River Basin discovered that cats living in the wild were catching and eating mice. So some ancient Egyptians caught some cats and domesticated them at home. Over time, wild cats have turned into very docile domestic cats, and they are very good at catching mice. Domestic cats bred widely and commonly in Egyptian homes.
