How long does a snail sleep?

Snails are cold-blooded animals, they do not have a fixed sleep cycle or closed eyelids. Snails are typically more active at night or in lower light, and more reclusive and quiet during the day or in brighter light. In low light conditions, they may be more likely to enter a hibernating state, but this state is not strictly sleep.

Snails do not have the distinctly different sleep stages experienced by mammals, such as rapid eye movement sleep (REM sleep) and non-rapid eye movement sleep (NREM sleep). They typically alternate between brief periods of rest and activity at different times of the day. Therefore, from a biological perspective, we do not strictly define the resting state of snails as "sleeping".

In general, snails do not have a clear sleep pattern like mammals, and their resting behavior is more affected by the surrounding environment and their own physiological needs.
