Feature
Details
The chipmunk lives in subtropical and temperate evergreen broad-leaved forests, coniferous forests and bushes near farmland. It usually builds nests in tree holes, tree branches or cracks on cliffs. It is active frequently at dawn and dusk. The food is mainly plant fruits, young shoots, seeds, and insects. It is widely distributed and is a common group.
Location
In China, it is distributed in Fujian, Taiwan, Hainan, Guangxi, Guangdong, Zhejiang, Anhui, Henan, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Guizhou and Yunnan. Abroad, it is distributed in Laos, Vietnam and other places.
Form
The body is relatively small, with short, thin fur. The head is olive with a little yellowish brown. The nape, shoulders, sides, and rump are olive-grey. The backs of the ears are black, with white tufts at the ends. The central dorsal stripe is short and unclear, the inner light stripe is very similar to the back color, and the outer light stripe is dirty white and shorter. The ventral side of the body is yellowish-white with a gray base. The tail has two black rings separated by a wider ochre-yellow ring.
