In China, it is distributed in the Xijiang and Nanpanjiang river systems.

15 specimens were measured, with a body length of 78-346mm, collected from Longzhou, Baise, Liujiang in Guangxi and Buyuanjiang and Yangzonghai in Yunnan.
The body is long and similar to that of a mullet, in the shape of a round rod, slightly flattened laterally after the dorsal fin, and rounded and without edges on the belly.
